30x30| #30: Creative Business Specialist
How helping other entrepreneurs helps keep me inspired
This may be the last of my 30 jobs by 30 stories, but I don’t imagine this job will be my last.
As you may have noticed while reading about my 29 other jobs, I like to change it up. Yet, I am currently very happy to be a creative business specialist helping visual creatives build successful businesses.
I work for a friend of mine who I met while traveling and he has built an incredible program to help artists build financially sustainable businesses around doing what they love. The ‘why’ of this program couldn’t be more aligned with mine, so I’m really grateful to get to be a part of it!
After spending time abroad together, this friend of mine was kind enough to offer me this role because he felt it suited my skillset of communicating well with people and also played off of my entrepreneurial background.
The role includes having short video calls with visual creatives who want to take their creative business to the next level (even if that means just getting started), running various social media accounts for the business, and attending team meetings and retreats.
I especially love the calls I get to do because I get to hear about people’s dreams. It’s so inspirational for me to hear all of these amazing artists talk about wanting to build their own business not only for the sake of doing what they love for work, but also to show their own children that anything is possible.
If you’re an entrepreneur like me and need some part time work, I would highly recommend trying to work with other entrepreneurs. It keeps me inspired even on the days I want to give up.
I am grateful for this role because, as my friend identified and hired me for, I think it perfectly suits my skillset. I love to talk with people – especially about their dreams.
In my “book” version of this, I plan to include these stories as vignettes with a longer form narrative throughout. There will also be an intro and conclusion so it won’t end so abruptly.
However, let me just say now that it has been so fun to revisit these stories with you all and I really appreciate you taking the time to follow along! I hope that through sharing these example, I may have inspired some of you to go against the grain a bit and try something new. After all, life is short and you’l never know if you don’t try!
I read all 30 stories cause they were all so interesting to read. Has me thinking about what more creative jobs I could do next.
